Stephen Shiao

Stephen Shiao, MD, PhD, is a radiation oncologist and immunologist who joined Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after completing his training at UCSF Medical Center. He is currently Professor and Director of Basic Science Research in the Department of Radiation Oncology, as well as Co-Leader of the Cancer Therapeutics Program at the Cedars-Sinai Cancer Center.  His laboratory investigates how the microbiome regulates immune responses to cytotoxic therapies, using both mouse models and early-phase clinical trials. Supported by grants from the NCI and the Department of Defense, his recent work has focused on the interplay between macrophages and the microbiome, and how these interactions influence responses to radiation therapy.
