András Piffkó
András earned his medical degree from Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, where his doctoral research focused on the dissemination of metastatic tumor cells in the spine. Following medical school, he joined the Department of Neurosurgery at the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf, shifting his research toward tumor clonality and immune responses in brain metastases. Supported by a fellowship from the German Research Foundation (DFG), he spent four years in Dr. Ralph Weichselbaum’s laboratory at the University of Chicago’s Department of Radiation and Cellular Oncology. There, he investigated how local radiotherapy influences systemic immune responses in metastatic cancer, using both patient samples and preclinical models of lung metastasis.
