Alexander Pietras, Phd

Alexander Pietras is Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Laboratory Medicine at Lund University, Sweden, where he has led an independent research group since 2014. He received his PhD from Lund University in 2010 with Sven Påhlman, working on hypoxia and cancer stemness in neuroblastoma, before postdoctoral training with Eric C. Holland at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. His laboratory studies how the glioblastoma tumor microenvironment is remodeled in response to stress such as hypoxia and radiotherapy, and how this remodeling drives phenotypic plasticity, tumor recurrence, and therapeutic resistance. His is a Swedish Cancer Society Senior Investigator, and his work is supported by an ERC Consolidator Grant.
